Through good times and bad, he still manages to smile and attempt to keep things lively by talking, teasing, or even singing to his friends and fellow companions. If he is ever depressed or conflicted with personal matters, he tries to keep it to himself, focusing on more trialing matters and keeping everyone's spirits up. Life is too good just to mope around all day after all! It is very easy to talk to Mao, though one may be bombarded with questions seeing as he likes to learn about new people and their own unique stories. However, like almost any kid his age, he can't resist the temptation to make a bratty remark or two. On the other hand, if one were to be a jerk, it can be expected that he will retaliate in a similar fashion. This can range from having a simple hissy fit, to cheerfully laughing it off and replying as he sees fit, and even to prying at the said person until he hits a nerve. Despite all this though, Mao realizes exactly when to hold his tongue; it can just be harder at some times than others. One thing that may be a surprise to some, considering his age and cheerful personality, is that Mao's really quite mature. Throughout his travels with Eugene and company, he has faced many hardships with everyone, such as losing loved ones, witnessing racial disputes, and even learning his own existence was far different from what he imagined. However, with each crisis, he manages to adapt, take everything in stride and finally move on, not wishing to become a burden to his companions. This may have been somewhat influenced by his military training, back when he was Eugene's subordinate, though it could also be his own self morals that drive him. This may be strange considering his normal behavior, but to be honest, Mao really only brings out his childish side when he's trying to keep peoples' spirits up. Plus, let's face it, there's no fun in being serious all the time. abilities Mao wields a power called "Force" which is the equivalent to magic in Callegea. To be exact, Force is a special ability that arises from the power of life and the soul. Mao's is called Force of Flame, which allows him to use fire magic as well as wind and darkness. It should be warned that Force is a power that comes from the heart; so should Mao, or any Force User, become emotionally unstable, there is too strong of a reaction and it will become uncontrollable. It is not as much as a factor at this point, but seeing as Mao has gained the power of a Sacred Beast, he is at risk of his Force going berserk a different way. Should Mao try to use that power while he harbors doubts in his heart, "he will likely be reduced to ashes by it." It can also be noted that as a Force User, Mao can summon a Force Cube, which is a literally a glowing cube that is the physical representation of Force. This cube will constantly spin in accordance with the stability of another person's Force, as well as their own. This cube's abilities may prove to be useless though unless other Force User's, besides Mao, are present. While more adept as a mage, Mao can also fight physically fairly well wielding two tonfas. |
the truth about mao [Mao is a boy without a past nor a family of his own. At one point, he claims that this is because he had lost almost his entire memory due to the shock of losing control of his Force. In actuality, this is not true. Mao was actually a creation by the Sacred Beasts, certain Gods who watch over the world of Callegea, as an "eye" for them to observe the people, seeing as they were not permitted to descend up the land. Having the heart and eyes formed from the Sacred Beast, Fenia's, body, each of the six Sacred Beasts' combined their powers and were able to bring forth the new life; Mao. Upon being awakened, Mao was given a brief explanation of his purpose by Fenia. "You came from us, yet you are not one of us... therefore, you are you, and none other than yourself. There is nothing for you to think about. You need only feel. Your eyes are our eyes. Your ears are our ears. We shall view and experience this world as you do. However, your heart shall remain yours. Walk to your heart's content... If you are able to take in everything that is around you, then the path which lies before you shall naturally open." After Mao showed he understood what Fenia told him, he was introduced to the world of Callegea where he began his new life.] |
